Racer Comeback Falls Short Against Aquinas

LIMA, OH - UNOH women's basketball tried to avenge a loss to Aquinas earlier this season Saturday afternoon but despite closing a 17-point gap, the Racers came up short again, 69-64.

The first quarter was dead even ending with the teams tied 16-16, but the second heavily favored the Saints who outscored UNOH 19-7 and to carry a 12-point lead into the break. Aquinas pushed their lead up to the largest of the game, 48-31,with 3:39 left in the third, but the Racers ended the frame on a 10-0 run to get back within seven heading into the final quarter.

The lead ballooned again to 14 points but UNOH wouldn't go away without a fight. In less than three minutes, the Racers rattled off twelve unanswered and made it a two-point game , 59-57, with 3:50 left in the game. Only two possessions separated the teams the rest of the way but the gap remained and the Saints fended off the comeback attempt and completed the season sweep of UNOH.

Alysia Lawson led all scorers with 20 points followed by Olivia Thompson's 19. Thompson had a stellar night from outside the arc matching her career high with five triples will grabbing seven rebounds. Brooke Asher finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four assists.

UNOH will be home again on Wednesday, February 4, which will coincide with National Girls & Women in Sports Day as the Racers host Madonna at 5:30 PM.
