LIMA, OH - UNOH women's basketball found a way to grind out another tight victory Saturday afternoon downing Lawrence Tech 72-67 to improve to 5-0 in games decided by fewer than ten points this season.
The two teams traded quarters in the first half as the Racers came out firing and hit 60% from the field in the first while Lawrence Tech hit 39%. In the second it was the Blue Devils firing 64% as a team and UNOH shooting 43% locking the game at 37-37 going into halftime.
Lawrence Tech opened the third with an 11-3 run to take their largest lead of the game, 48-40, with 6:26 left in the frame. That momentum was short-lived as the Racers answered quickly with a 15-2 spurt of their own and went back on top by five with two minutes remaining in the quarter. That was as large as the lead would get the rest the game with just two seperating the teams heading into the final stanza.
That final quarter stayed tight but proved difficult for both offenses as the two combined to shoot less than 24% from the field. They traded the lead six times with neither leading by more than two until UNOH got themselves on top for good with 3:06 to play. The Racers scored six of the final eight points while freshman Sanaiiya Gray capped the night with back-to-back blocks that denied the Blue Devils' attempt to close the gap at the end.
Four different Racers scored in double figures led by freshman Brooke Asher and senior Alysia Lawson who each put up 17 points on the night. It was the most efficient night of Asher's young career shooting 60% in the game and grabbing seven rebounds, both season bests, adding two assists, two steals and a block. Lawson marked her 47th consecutive game with double-digit points dating back to January 31, 2024 and now sits just nine points away from 2,000 in her career.
Olivia Thompson had her own career night earning her first double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds while swiping a season high four steals. Sanaiiya Gray added 14 points with four rebounds and four blocks and Lori Huffman rounded out the team scoring with nine.
UNOH had their best rebounding night in conference play this season pulling down 42 with 16 coming on the offensive glass. The Racers also had a season low in turnovers coughing the ball up just ten times while forcing 17.
UNOH will be home two more times before the winter break with a non-conference stint against Midway on Thursday, December 11 followed by a WHAC tussle with Defiance on Saturday.
