UNOH Downs Madonna in Overtime 91-83

LIVONIA, MI - UNOH had to battle from behind to force overtime Tuesday night where they finished the job to earn their first conference win of the season, 91-83, over Madonna.

The Racers controlled most of the first quarter but a late Crusader push kept the game tight after one, 20-19. That momentum spilled over into the second as Madonna outscored UNOH 17-3 over ten and a half minutes of game time to go up 27-20 at the 7:00 minute mark. It took the Racers just two minutes to erase that deficit with a quick 8-0 run of their own to take swipe the lead back. After the two traded buckets, the game was tied 31-31 but Madonna closed out the frame with six of the final eight points to lead by four at halftime.

The Crusaders pushed their advantage up to as many as eleven in the third but this time it was UNOH finishing strong with a huge 15-4 run that put them back up one after three. The game continued to swing violently back and fourth as a 12-0 Madonna run was followed by an 8-0 stretch for the Racers and the game sat at just one point, 64-63, with 3:18 to play. UNOH couldn't get their noses in front before the final buzzer, but freshman Kayla Larimore found herself in the right moment to knock down her first triple of the season that tied the game 73-73 and forced overtime.

The first points of extra time came at the Racer charity stripe and put them on top for good. UNOH kept grinding and worked their way into their largest lead of the game, 89-79, holding on for the eight-point victory.

Alysia Lawson led the Racers with 24 points shooting 8-19 (42%) from the field and 6-8 (75%) from the free throw line. Brooke Asher followed matching her season best with 17 points while Olivia Thompson chipped in 13. Krystal Smith also bagged 13 points, a season high, with eleven coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. Jordan Mueller recorded eleven, her most this season, and the scoring was rounded out by Kayla Larimore's seven and Lori Huffman's six. Huffman also made her mark on the glass hauling in 20 total rebounds to lead all players, her second 20+ performance of the season.

UNOH will have a week off for Thanksgiving before getting back into action with four straight home games beginning December 3 against Siena Heights.
