UNOH Sweeps Twinbill at Cleary

HOWELL, MI - UNOH softball scored five runs in the first two innings of both games against Cleary en route to their first doubleheader sweep in ten days. The Racers added another pair of runs in game one for a 7-1 victory before carrying their early scoring through the end of the nightcap for a 5-1 win.

UNOH wasted no time getting the offense rolling in game one hitting two singles and a double in their first three at bats. Tayler Braun and Brenna Cobb were responsible for the first two hits followed by a Hailee Edgell double that brought in the first run of the day. A sacrifice fly scored the second with the third coming home thanks to a wild pitch and the Racers were in business early. Cecilia Campbell opened the second with a lead off single and Dominique Baker reached on a free pass to put UNOH in a threatening position again. Braun drove in both runners with a single through the left side of the defense and put her team up 5-0 after two.

A pair of two-out singles and a wild pitch were responsible for the lone Cougar run in the third but the Racers erased that score with two more of their own in the fifth. With two outs and runners on second and third, Kimberly Hernandez answered the call and ripped a shot down the left field line that scored both and gave her team the final 7-1 advantage.

Lanie Wooten (10-10) went the distance allowing one run on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks. The sophomore slinger pulled her record even on the season with her 33rd career win in her 30th complete game putting her fourth all-time in both categories.

The hits came quickly again in game to as Brenna Cobb and Hailee Edgell both single in the first to get the offense moving. Morgan Piotrovsky followed with a double that scored the first and Cecilia Campbell made it a four-hit frame with another single that put UNOH up 2-0 after one. The Racers went to work again in the second, this time with two outs, using two more singles by Edgell and Campbell that added three runs to their score and put them up 5-0 through two for the second time. Unlike game one, it would be the last of the offense despite threating in the sixth and seventh.

Karsyn McGlothen and Chloe Scott combined to allow only two total hits over the seven innings with Cleary's single run coming against Scott in the sixth. McGlothen (5-3) struck out three and walked two with just one hit through her five inning start to pick up the win.

Tayler Braun led the team over the two games going 4-8 with two RBI and two runs scored. She now has at least one hit in nine of the last ten games with multiple in four of her last five. Cecilia Campbell also logged a four-hit day that included her best of the season in game two where she finished 3-4 with three RBI. Hailee Edgell was a consistent producer in both games ending the day 3-5 with two RBI and a team high four runs scored.

UNOH will stay on the road for their next six games with a doubleheader at Lourdes on Saturday, April 4, followed by two at NCAA DI Detroit Mercy on Monday and a final pair at Defiance one week from today.
