LIMA, OH - For the third time in four days, UNOH softball picked up a doubleheader split in conference play with a 6-2 game one victory over Aquinas and a 9-6 loss in game two.
The Saints struck first but the Racers answered with a pair of runs thanks to an error in the home first to take an early 2-1 lead. UNOH returned that favor in the third with an error of their own that cost the second, but final, Aquinas run of the game. A lead off walk opened the bottom of the fourth followed by four consecutive singles that scored two more for the Racers and put them on top for good. Another lead off walk and a couple singles set up another two-run frame for UNOH in the fifth to finish off the scoring.
Hailee Edgell and Morgan Piotrovsky both drove in two runs to start the day with Tayler Braun, Brenna Cobb and Kimberly Hernandez all logging a multi-hit game.
Lanie Wooten (9-10) tossed her third straight complete game with five hits, four strikeouts and a walk.
The Saints started off hot in the nightcap collecting six hits in their first trip to the plate scoring four times with two outs and opening up a 5-0 lead. A long ball in the second made it seven for Aquinas before the Racers could get the offense going. They finally managed to string together four hits in the home half of that inning as Makenna Goch and Olive Staal shaved a couple runs off the deficit. The offense kept coming in pairs with two more for the Saints in the fourth followed by two for UNOH in the fifth.
Down to their final at bat, the Racers worked the bases loaded with no outs setting up a chance to close the gap. A walk brought in one followed by a Sydney Feenstra single that scored a second but the comeback was shut down by the Saints' defense picking up outs on the next two batters to finish off the doubleheader split.
Makenna Goch and Olive Staal both recorded their second multi-hit game of the season bringing in three runs between them. Brenna Cobb put together her best single day of the season with three hits in game one and two in game two to finish 5-8 at the plate.
Chloe Scott (5-3) got the start but was forced out after just two innings in the circle. She gave up seven of the nine runs, five earned, on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Allison Feuerback took over in the third and finished a strong five innings matching to longest outing of the year. She allowed just one earned run on four hits walking one and striking out one.
After playing ten games over the last seven days, UNOH will have to reload again for an eight game stretch in seven days beginning Wednesday, April 1 at Cleary.
