LIMA, OH - UNOH split another pair of conference games on a chilly afternoon Friday falling 9-4 in game one and winning 8-3 in game two.
The Racers fell behind 3-0 early in game one as the offense struggled to get going. Finally, a lead off double by Brenna Cobb in the home fifth proved to be the spark they needed. Tayler Braun followed with a single before Hailee Edgell and Morgan Piotrovsky each recorded a base knock to bring in the first two runs of the game. A bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly made it a four-run frame and gave UNOH the lead after five, 4-3. The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Golden Eagles put together four-hit sixth, aided but a pair of walks, for their second crooked number and a 7-4 lead. They added two more in the seventh and shut down back-to-back scoring opportunities for UNOH to swipe the win.
Lanie Wooten (8-10) took the loss after her twelveth complete game of the season allowing nine runs on nine hits, six earned, with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Racers scored in each of their first three at bats in the nightcap going up 6-0 through three. Kimberly Hernandez and Brenna Cobb were each responsible for a single run in the first and second, respectively, with three consecutive singles beginning what would become a four-run third. A walk and a fielder's choice came with bases loaded to score the first two before Tayler Braun smoked the gap in right center for a two-RBI triple. It was the first of two for Braun who came up big again in the fifth with her second two-out triple that finished off the game's scoring with another pair of runs.
It was just the fourth time in program history that a player recorded multiple triples in the same game ending Braun's day 4-8 at the dish with four RBI. Freshman Morgan Piotrovsky had the best single day of her short career finishing 4-7 over the two games with one RBI. Hailee Edgell also finished 4-7 and Kimberly Hernandez ended 3-6 with a pair of RBI on the day.
Chloe Scott (5-2) went the distance for the fifth time this season giving up three runs on five hits to pick up the win.
UNOH will be back in action tomorrow, March 28, for a doubleheader against Aquinas at 1:00 PM.
