UNOH Wins Pair Over Rochester Christian
LIVONIA, MI - After moving Sunday's softball doubleheader to Madonna University, UNOH completed their fifth straight sweep of Rochester Christian with wins of 8-3 and 10-4. The Racers are now 13-1 all-time versus the Warriors and have won ten straight dating back to 2019.
UNOH opened the day with two singles and a double that scored the first before a sacrifice fly added a second in their first at bat of the doubleheader. A double steal and a Hailee Edgell triple added three more in the second as the Racers went up 5-0 after two. Two singles and a walk got things started again for UNOH in the fifth with another sacrifice fly scoring the first of the frame. One more base hit added a second with an error aiding the final Racer run making it the third crooked number of the game. Rochester Christian fought back with three runs of their own in the home half but managed just two more base runners the rest of the game.
Edgell finished just a home run short of the cycle hitting a double in the first and a single in the fifth to go along with her second inning triple. She was joined by Tayler Braun as the only two Racers with multiple hits who went 2-3 with two runs scored.
Lanie Wooten (7-8) picked up the complete game win with only one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Warriors took their first lead of the day with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first but it was short-lived with UNOH scoring three in their next trip to the plate. Two doubles, a single and a sac bunt were responsible for the three scores as the offense got rolling again. Four more hits in the third translated into two more UNOH runs but Rochester answered again in the home half with two of their own. The scoring was far from over as the Racers added two in the fifth and three in the sixth, capped by a Cecilia Campbell two run homer, to pull away for the win.
Freshman Makenna Goch led the team with three hits, three RBI and three runs scored, all career bests. Cecilia Campbell drove in three and Brenna Cobb brought in two while going 2-2 at the dish.
Karsyn McGlothen (5-2) tossed four and a third innings with four runs allowed on seven hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Lanie Wooten earned her third career save and second of the season without giving up a hit over an inning and two-thirds.
UNOH will play six straight home games in the week ahead beginning with Indiana Tech on Wednesday, March 25, followed by Cornerstone Friday and Aquinas on Saturday.
