Scott One-Hits Bloomfield, Racers Walk Through Fisher on Day Four
MELBOURNE, FL - After taking two losses a day ago, UNOH softball rebounded with a pair of dominant victories at the Space Coast Spring Games in Florida on Saturday. Two dazzling pitching displays resulted in just three total hits allowed over the two games as the Racers downed Bloomfield 3-0 before walking through Fisher 28-0.
Game one worked four innings deep before UNOH finally got on the board using a couple errors in fifth to score three with just one hit. Brenna Cobb bunt for that hit to lead off the inning and Dominique Baker sacrificed to move her into scoring position. Susan Vokes brought in the first followed by Kimberly Hernandez with Athena Schwartz coming home thanks a wild pitch to cap the scoring.
Hailee Edgell earned the team's only extra base knock of the game ending 2-4 at the dish for her fifth multi-hit outing during her team leading nine-game hit streak.
Chloe Scott (3-0) tossed her second consecutive complete game shutout holding the Bears to just one hit while striking out five and walking two.
Game two began in unimaginable fashion with the Falcons walking UNOH batters twelve times in the first inning with eleven wild pitches and three past balls. It all combined for an incredible twelve runs without the Racers recording a single hit. Those problems continued into the second but this time UNOH was able to contribute to the run parade with four singles that scored two. All together, six more runs came across in the frame making it an 18-0 lead after just two innings.
The Racers needed just one hit two add another pair of runs in the third before the bottom fell out for Fisher in the fourth. Three straight singles opened the inning followed by four walks and two more base knocks that gave UNOH eight more runs to finish the day.
The 28 runs sets a new single game record for the program topping the previous best of 21 that had been on top since 2015. The Racers were walked a program record 21 times led by Mackenzie Brandt's four that ties the most ever in a game.
Paige Becker logged her first multi-hit game of the season going 2-4 with an RBI while tying the program record with five runs scored. Alyssa McCain went 2-2 for her first game with more than one hit and earning her first career RBI. She was joined by Mallory Horvath, Olive Staal and Carly Blair who all recorded their first multi-hit outing at UNOH.
It was a day of firsts for sophomore slinger Allison Feuerbacher who picked her first win, first complete game and first shutout while tossing a two-hit gem in her first career start. Feuerbacher struck out six batters and walked three to become the fourth different Racer to earn a win this season, the program's most since 2023.
UNOH is now 5-3 through the first four days of the Space Coast Spring Games and will have Sunday off before playing four more games to finish off the trip. Johnson and Cottey will be their opponents when they start back up on Monday, March 16, before ending with a second contest against the Coments and a showdown with No. 10 Southeastern on Tuesday.
