Softball Takes Two Losses on Opening Day

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - UNOH softball began the season with a tough 6-4 loss to No. 7 Cumberlands Thursday and followed up with a 12-1 defeat against (RV) Campbellsville.

In game one, the Patriots hit first with two runs in the first inning before adding two more in the fourth. The Racers closed the gap in the fifth using two walks, two singles and an error to plate three before tying the game with back-to-back doubles in the sixth. After two quick outs in the bottom of the frame, Cumberlands put two runners on with a couple singles and were aided by three consecutive walks that scored two and gave them the win.

Lanie Wooten (0-1) took the loss after going five and two-thirds innings off the start. She allowed just three earned runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Game two was a one-sided affair as the Tigers plated five in the first and seven in the third to run away from UNOH. The lose Racer run came in the top of the second with an RBI groundout off the bat of Cecilia Campbell.

Karsyn McGlothin (0-1) got the start but was forced out after just two and a third innings giving up eight runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Susan Vokes debuted for just two-thirds of an inning but allowed four runs on two hits walking one and striking out one. The final inning was tossed by Allison Feuerbacher who threw a clean fourth with one strikeout. 

UNOH will be back in action Friday at the Patriots Classic beginning with (RV) Campbellsville at 2:30 and ending with No. 7 Cumberlands at 4:30.
