WILLIAMSBURG, KY - UNOH softball split their two games on the second day of the Patriots Classic Friday falling 9-0 to (RV) Cumberlands but finishing on a high note with a 7-5 victory over No. 7 Cumberlands. The win marks the program's highest ranked victory since 2017 (#7 Davenport) and it's third top ten victory in the last eight games dating back to last season.
Day two began similar to the way day one ended with the Tigers running away from the Racers in game one. Campbellsville scored one in each of the third and fourth innings before putting up crooked numbers in each of the final three.
Lanie Wooten took her second loss in as many games working five and a third innings with seven runs given up, five earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Karsyn McGlothen pitched an inning and two-thirds in relief allowing two runs on one hit with two walks.
UNOH was undeterred by the loss in game one holding on to defeat the host Patriots in game two. A one-out triple from Brenna Cobb got the offense started in their first at bat followed by an error and a single that brought in two and gave the Racers an early lead.
After two scoreless frames, UNOH broke through again in the fourth, this time with three singles and a sacrifice bunt scoring the first. Another single, a double steal and a costly error made it a five run inning and put the Racers up 7-0 after four.
Cumberlands finally found some offense in the home fifth shaving off three runs but after two more in the seventh, UNOH cut the comeback short and scored their first win of the new season.
Lanie Wooten (1-2) worked her first complete game of the year to pick up the win allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Wooten also highlighted the day offensively going 3-6 at the plate with one RBI. Tayler Braun ended the doubleheader 2-7 at the dish with Cecilia Campbell and Kimberly Hernandez each driving in one run.
UNOH will head back to Kentucky next weekend for four games at Georgetown College. The Racers will open with Johnson on Saturday, February 21 before a three straight against the host Tigers.
