Racers Advance to Conference Semifinals with 6-1 Win Over Cleary

LIMA, OH - UNOH men's soccer opened the post season with a comfortable 6-1 win over Cleary Saturday afternoon in the WHAC Quarterfinals. The Racers netted three times in the first half, twice in the second and were aided by a Cougar own goal as well.

It took just 85 seconds for UNOH to get on the board first after an initial shot from Leonard K.Assouan was spilled by the keeper and finished into open net by Eguzki Hashimoto. Five minutes later, Cleary answered off a corner kick but it would be their only tally of the day. The Racers' Calum Loomes scored his first of the year in the 21st minute followed by Assouan in the 27th to make it a 3-1 game at the break.

The first goal of the second half game off a cross by Assouan that deflected off a Cougar defender and past the keeper resulting in an own goal and a three-goal advantage. Michel Tentchou notched his 16th of the season in the 58th minute before the day was capped by Ryan Hennessy who finished in the 84th advancing UNOH into the WHAC Semifinals.

The Racers racked up 26 total shots putting 16 on target while holding Cleary to four and three. Alex Torres made two saves over his 90 minutes in front of goal to improve to 4-1-2 this year.

Two-seed Indiana Tech took care of their quarterfinal matchup against seven-seed Cornerstone 5-1 setting up a rematch with the Racers from just ten days ago for a trip to the WHAC Championship. The No. 16 Warriors downed UNOH in that matchup 4-1 and will host again the second time around next Saturday, November 8.
