UNOH Stays Alive in Title Hunt -- Racers, Warriors Split Four

WASHINGTON, MI - Two teams on opposite ends of the conference standings played out a tight contest Saturday afternoon with UNOH and Rochester splitting four goals equally in a 2-2 draw.

The Racers controlled the first half but it was the Warriors striking first in the 33rd minute against the run of form. Just before halftime, Calle Bodenas leveled the match and shifted momentum back to UNOH heading into the break.

That momentum spilled over into the second half as UNOH finally got themselves in front thanks to Marcos Vidan who netted his first goal of the year and made it a 2-1 game. However, similar to the first half, Rochester Christian broke through again in the 68th minute despite a mostly one-sided half to that point. Now tied at 2-2, the teams battled back and forth trading possession and opportunities but neither could find the winning touch.

The dominated statistically putting 15 of 29 shots on goal and earning twelve corner kicks while holding the Warriors to four of ten shots on goal and just two from the corner.

Four teams entered the day tied at the top of the WHAC standings at 7-1 but only three remained when the day finished as Indiana Tech took their second loss, 2-1, to Aquinas. The other two, Madonna and Lawrence Tech, faced each other with an opportunity to take control of the league but the match played out scoreless putting the Crusaders and Blue Devils tied with UNOH at 7-1-1.

With one week remaining in the regular season, UNOH controls their own destiny for at least a share of the conference championship. Wednesday, October 22, the Racers will take on No. 16 Indiana Tech on the road and try to pick up their first win over the Warriors since 2018, the last time UNOH won a WHAC title. The season will conclude back at Racer Stadium next Saturday with another pivitol matchup that could determine the regular season champion with a showdown against Lawrence Tech on Senior Day.
