Brock Nabs 100th Win at UNOH -- Racers Handle Cornerstone 3-0

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - In his ninth season at the helm of UNOH men's soccer, head coach Tyler Brock notched his 100th win Saturday afternoon has his Racers continued their conference trek with a 3-0 win over Cornerstone.

All three goals were scored in the first half with another dominant display by the Racers. The first took less than seven minutes as UNOH controlled the early possession with a lot of build up. After working the ball steadily, the Racers accelerated in the blink of an eye as Aimar Lezana charged into the box at full speed before crossing past the keeper's face to his teammate on the opposite side. Reece Benjamin was the recipient of Lezana's attack beating his own defender to the ball and poking it into the back of the net.

The 1-0 scoreline held for almost 25 minutes before a handball on a cross from Benjamin set up a penalty kick opportunity. The keeper guessed right but the placement was perfect in the top left corner as Raul Oliu put his team up 2-0 in the 31st minute.

The Racers notched one more just minutes before halftime thanks this time to an effort play by Calum Loomes. After a heavy first touch sent the ball straight at the keeper, Loomes gave everything he had to get there first as the keeper came rushing out. Loomes was first the ball toeing it away from the keeper and, as the two crashed, it left Jayson Janofski all alone with an open net to make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half played much tighter as Cornerstone tried to fight their way back into the match, but UNOH stayed organized and kept them off board to pick up their sixth straight win and fifth shutout of the season.

Ross Synnott (5-0) stayed unbeaten in front of goal making three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

The three goals on the day jumped UNOH into first place in the WHAC with 47 this season. It also gives the team 118 points this fall putting them first in the conference and fourth in the country.

Now at 5-0 in the WHAC, UNOH is off to their best conference start since 2020 (7-0) and will host their next two contests as they try to keep their nine-game unbeaten streak alive. Lourdes will visit Racer Stadium on Wednesday, October 8 followed by Siena Heights next Saturday.
