Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 in Season Opener

LIMA, OH - UNOH men's soccer kicked off the 2025 campaign with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to (RV) Carroll Friday afternoon at the UNOH Soccer Showcase.

The Racers controlled the first half of play holding Carroll to just one shot that was high off target but couldn't beat the Saints' keeper on the other end who made two strong saves to hold the match scoreless into halftime. UNOH had two more chances early in the second half but were once again shut down by the keeper each time.

The game winner for Carroll came early in the 71st minute off a high crossed corner kick that found it's way through the box to a Saint near the far post who headed it into the back of the net. The Racers had one more opportunity to get on the scoreboard but the woodwork denied the chance and the match played out to a 1-0 finish.

"I'm honestly disappointed in our ability to finish and put the game away," lamented Racer head coach Tyler Brock after the match. "I think we created enough chances, but that's something we're just gonnga have to learn."

UNOH held the advantage in both shots (9-4) and shots on goal (4-2) but were held off the scoreboard for just the second time in their last ten matches dating back to last season.

"I think we've come a long way from last year and there's a very promising year in front of us," added Brock. "It's not going to be without adversity and we need to better understand how to deal with that. Hopefully, we can come out in the next game and capitalize on the chances we create."

That next game will be on Sunday for the Racers when they take on No. 24 Governors State on day two of the UNOH Soccer Showcase. The Jaguars earned a top 25 ranking to start the season for the first time in program history and opened with a 2-0 victory over Aquinas in game two Friday.
