Men's Basketball Ends Season with Tight Loss at UMD
DEARBORN, MI - The 2025-26 campaign came to a close for UNOH men's basketball Saturday afternoon with another tight game that ended in favor of UM-Dearborn, 88-83.
The two teams played even through almost 14 minutes of the first half and the game sat tied 23-23. Over the next three minutes, the Racers pulled ahead by seven, their largest lead of the game, and managed to keep in front through the halftime break, 37-33.
The Wolverines returned the favor by scoring the first twelve points of the second half to swing the advantage to eight points in their favor in less than two minutes of play. That run continued for five more minutes finishing 16-2 for UM-Dearborn and pushing the lead up to ten with 15:22 remaining.
In just two minutes, UNOH roared back with a 12-3 run of their own that pulled them within one, 52-51 setting up a tight finish. Over the next ten minutes, the teams produced five ties and five lead changes landing at 74-74 with 3:08 left to play. Those three minutes belonged to the Wolverines who rattled off an 11-4 spurt to pull away for good thanks to an icy 88% free throw percentage down the stretch. The loss was the fourth straight to end the season for UNOH with an average margin of just four points in those games.
Antonio King ended his career with a game high 29 points, his 15th 20-point performance of the year, adding five rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Alex Benson scored 15 followed by Chris Johnson's eleven and Grant Pikkaart's ten. Pikkaart also led the team with nine rebounds while Johnson finished with six and three assists.
UNOH ends the year 9-19 overall and 7-15 in conference play, but despite the disappointment of missing post season play the Racers have logged 24 wins over the last two seasons marking the program's best two year stretch since the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons (25).
