Men's Basketball Falls to Undefeated MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, OH - UNOH men's basketball came up short in their final non-conference game of the season falling on the road to Mount Vernon Nazarene, 97-78.

The game was tight through the first eight minutes but a quick 8-0 run put the Cougars up seven halfway through the first. The two went back and forth keeping the Racers within striking distance, but MVNU outscored UNOH 11-4 over the final two and a half minutes to hold a 51-36 advantage at the break.

The Racers cut the lead back to ten with ten to play in the second, but they couldn't find the momentum to close the gap as Mount Vernon Nazarene stretched the lead up to 25 before finishing off the 19-point win.

Ajani Washington led the team with a season high 19 points while Kahlil Davis put up 15 for his fourth double-digit performance in six games. Jyheim Spencer grabbed a team high seven rebounds scoring ten along with Caleb Chapman off the bench.

Both teams had a tough night from long range combining to shoot just 25% but the struggles for UNOH continued onto the charity stripe hitting just 52% while MVNU hit 71% of their chances. The Cougars also controlled the paint winning the rebound battle 54-39 and earning 17 second chance points with 17 offensive boards.

With the non-conference schedule in the rear view mirror, UNOH will now set their sites on the WHAC season opening conference play at home November 19 against No. 21 Indiana Tech.
