Offensive Showdown: Men's Basketball Outduels Goshen in Overtime
GOSHEN, IN - UNOH and Goshen combined for 222 points Saturday night as the Racers survived a late push by the Maple Leafs that forced overtime and edged out their first win of the young campaign, 112-110. It is the program's third highest offensive output of all time and it's most in a game since December 10, 2013 (117 - Ohio Mid-Western).
The Racers needed less than three minutes to go up by double-figures earning the first ten points of the game. UNOH held that cushion for most of the first half going up by as many as 16 points before landing at 56-44 at the break.
The first four minutes of the second half continued the same trends as the first as the Racers pushed their lead back up to 16 with 16:07 left to play. The next seven minutes, however, belonged to Goshen who rattled off a massive 21-8 run that shaved the lead back to just three points at the 9:37 mark. The Maple Leafs continued to chip away and worked their way in front for the first time all night with just over five minutes left in the game, 87-86.
The teams traded blows and exchanged leads three more times before UNOH built a seven-point cushion with just 50 seconds remaining. Goshen didn't surrender the fight and ended the game with eight of it's last nine points, including a the game tying bucket just before the buzzer, to force an extra period with the game tied 97-97.
The overtime period produced three ties and four lead changes as Kahlil Davis banged home the game winning three-pointer with five seconds on the clock to give UNOH a 112-110 victory.
Davis combined with Antonio King for 64 of the team's points scoring 33 and 31, respectively. Davis went 9-19 (47%) from the field and 12-14 (86%) from the charity stripe with King shooting 12-20 (60%) and 6-7 (86%) from the line. King stuffed all the statlines grabbing seven rebounds with four assists, four steals and three blocks while Davis finished with three assists, two boards and a steal. Chance Groce chipped in 15 points off the bench while Alex Benson put up twelve.
UNOH will be off now for ten days before hosting Wright State-Lake on Tuesday, November 11.
