UNOH Wins Pair Over Indiana Tech

LIMA, OH - In the battle for league standings, UNOH (25-16, 21-7) fought through a doubleheader sweep of Indiana Tech (29-14, 15-11) taking game one 7-5 and game two 4-1.

 

Game 1: UNOH 7 Indiana Tech 5 (7 Innings)

The game was hitless through one before the Warriors plated the first two runs in the second. Seth Freeman led off the bottom of the inning with a double to left field and the Racers came alive. Darius Freeman brought in one with a RBI single to right, Lincoln Hackim did the same to left and Eliomar Otero singled up the middle for one more. Tyler Grigalis capped off a five run inning with a two out double that scored two putting UNOH up 5-2 after two. Indiana Tech cut the lead to one with two in the third but Alex Velasco got one back with a RBI single in the bottom. The Warriors scored one off a sac fly in the fourth and the Racers used a sac fly in the fifth to get one of their own to go up 7-5. Indiana Tech managed to load the bases in the seventh, but UNOH rolled a double play to end the game and give the Racers the win.

Tyler Grigalis and Eliomar Otero each went 2-4 at the dish. Grigalis led the team with two RBI and Otero finished with one. Darius Freeman was 2-2 with an RBI and scored three times in the game.

 Michael Joyce got the start but couldn't get the decision after three innings of work. Joyce gave up five runs off seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Jack Olberding (3-2) tossed two and two-thirds innings of no hit ball to pick up the win. Olberding struck out five and walked three. Eliott Traver threw the final frame to earn the save giving up three hits.

 

Game 2: UNOH 4 Indiana Tech 1

The two teams combined for just three hits over the first three innings as the game entered the fourth scoreless. A balk assisted the Warriors first and only run of the game and the lead quickly changed hands in the bottom of three. Two singles and two strikeouts put runns on first and second with two outs. Tim Hanible singled down the left field line to bring in one and Justice Panton used an error to load the bases. Lincoln Hackim walked in the second and Eliomar Otero used an infield single to score the third. The next hit for the Racers didn't come until the bottom of the sixth, but it was a rocket shot from Drake Miller that cleared the left field fence, his first this season, and put UNOH up 4-1. The teams scattered just three hits the rest of the game giving UNOH the doubleheader sweep.

 Tim Hanible finished 2-3 with one RBI and Nolan Hull was 2-4. Eliomar Otero, Drake Miller, and Lincoln Hackim each had one RBI.

 Wyatt Johnson started and went three innings giving up two hits with one walk. Walter Long (2-0) earned the win after five innings of relief work giving up one run off just two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Eliott Traver earned his second save of the day pitching the final frame with no hits and one strikeout.

 

 UNOH wraps up the regular season with a four game series at Aquinas this weekend, April 29-30. First pitch both days scheduled for 1:00 PM.
