UNOH Wins Two Against Huntington

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN - The UNOH (2-7) and Huntington (6-5) baseball programs met for the first time in a decade on Saturday, February 25, in a neutral site double-header played at Jeffersonville (IN) High School. The Racers used a three-run fourth to take game one 4-1 and scored two in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the sweep with a 3-2 win in game two.

 

 

Game 1: UNOH 4 Huntington 1 (7 Innings)

An error with two outs in the first gave Huntington the first run of the game. After the Racers got the final out of the inning, the next six batters struck out in order sending the game into the home third still 1-0. Darius Freeman doubled down the right field line and Tyler Grigalis singled up the gut to bring in one and tie the game. The teams combined for just one hit over the next twelve batters as the game stayed 1-1 halfway through the fourth inning. Two errors scored one before Lincoln Hackim hit his second home run in the last three games scoring two more and putting the Racers up 4-1. There was only one more hit by either team the rest of the game as UNOH held on for their first win of the season.

Rolando Heredia-Bustos tossed his second career complete game and the team's first of the season to pick up the win. Heredia-Bustos gave up just three hits with one unearned run striking out seven and walking one. 

 

Game 2: UNOH 3 Huntington 2 (7 Innings)

UNOH put the Foresters down in order to start the first but, despite two hits in the bottom, couldn't get on the board. Huntington made the Racers pay bringing in one in the second to take an early 1-0 lead. Tyler Grigalis answered in the bottom with a solo shot that cleared the center field fence. UNOH couldn't produce another run and the game sat 1-1 after two. Nine of the next ten batters were sent packing as the game entered the home fourth. It looked like the Racers may get add on but Tyler Grigalis got caught trying to score to end the inning preserve the tie. Again the Foresters took advantage and took the lead with a two-out double in the fifth. The pitchers went to work retiring six of the next seven and game held at 2-1 headed into the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Grigalis continued his hot streak with a two-out single and Ben Jackson went down the left field line for his first home of the season putting UNOH up 3-2. Huntington couldn't get any offense going as the Racers picked up win number two. 

Tyler Grigalis was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with one RBI and Ben Jackson finished 2-3 with two RBI.

Jack Olberding went five innings off the start giving up two runs off three hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Walter Long pitched one clean inning in relief to pick up the win and Jeremy Yurcak earned his first career save with two strikeouts in the seventh. 

 

The Racers return to IU-Southeast on Sunday for a 12:00 PM double-header against the Grenaniers.
