UNOH Takes Four-Set Defeat in Final Road Match of the Year
ADRIAN, MI - UNOH volleyball played tight with Siena Heights Wednesday night, but the Saints did just enough to hand the Racers a 3-1 loss in their last road trip of the season.
Siena Heights earned the biggest win of the night in game one, 25-16, but UNOH answered right back with a 25-21 win in game two. Just one point separated the two late in set three, but the Saints strung together eight of the final eleven points to go up 2-1 with a 25-19 win. The final game went back and forth until the end sitting tied 23-23, but the final two points belonged to Siena Heights again take the game 25-23 and the match 3-1.
"I'm very proud of our entire program tonight," stated head coach Bill Bonham after the match. "We have faced adversity all season and tonight was no different. Four of our six seniors were out and another was fighting an injury so we were forced to count on our younger players once again. Despite some line up challenges and season frustration that has been building, our group stuck together and played together like it was week one."
Freshman Lily Christensen was one of those younger players who highlighted the night with a new career best 13 kills on 36 swings with just two errors for a .306 hitting percentage, also a career high. Fellow freshman Paige Hoodlebrink also had a career night earning her fifth double-double of her rookie campaign with 35 assists and 14 digs while also scoring five service aces. Sophomore Riley Treece dug 17 times and was joined by Kaci Carroll, Alli Lopez and Kalaya Fitzgerald all with double-digit digs.
