UNOH Snags 5-Set Win Over UM-Dearborn

LIMA, OH - It was a back-and-forth contest between UNOH and UM-Dearborn Saturday afternoon as the two teams traded wins in the first four games before the Racers took the decisive fifth set 15-13.

UNOH had a slow start to the day dropping set one 25-13 but rallied to set two 25-22. Again the Wolverines finished on top, 25-17, in the third game of the day but the Racers were able to set up a decisive fifth set after controling game four 25-19. Depite a quick 7-4 lead for UNOH, UM-Dearborn wasn't ready to give up the fight pulling in front 9-8 with a 5-0 run. The two teams traded blows late but the final three points belonged to the Racers giving them a 3-2 win that snaps a five-game losing skid.

Today was a testament to our growth," head coach Bill Bonham said after the match. "We used 13 players today with all different lineup combinations and it proved that, as a team, we can still be productive with any lineup."

Aliyah Saylor recorded her third double-digit kill outing in the last five leading the team with 13 on 35 attacks. Saylor also added two aces and two block assists to her scoreline giving her 16 points on the day. Shamyria DuBose logged a career high eight assisted blocks while adding six kills and an ace for eleven points. Savanna Reed finished with a season high 24 assists and eleven digs for her fifth double-double of the season while five different Racers earned double-digit digs. Kalaya Fitzgerald and Kaci Carroll both hit career highs with 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Alli Lopez also ended with 17 while Riley Treece picked up eleven.

"Just two months into this new era, we are seeing signs that we can change and get better," Bonham continued. "We just need to work for it on a consistent level now."

UNOH will hope to find that consistency on the road as they will travel to both Rochester Christian and Lawrence Tech next weekend.
