Volleyball Tops Lourdes in Straight Sets

LIMA, OH - UNOH picked up their first conference win of the season Wednesday night with a quick 3-0 victory over Lourdes in the home opener.

The Racers breezed through the first two sets with identical scores of 25-12 but had to work in set three to finish the night early. The Gray Wolves jumped ahead 14-9 to start but UNOH used an 8-2 run to get back in front 17-16. Lourdes took the lead right back 18-17 but eight of the final nine points went the way of the Racers to complete the sweep.

"I thought we played very consistent tonight and didn't have the dramatic ups and downs that we have been seeing," state first year head coach Bill Bonham following the match. "We played clean volleyball and limited our mistakes to just a few execution points. That's a big upswing in our performance."

Senior Abigail Martin enjoyed the return home putting together the best hitting night of her career. Martin racked up a career high 19 kills on 34 attacks making just three errors for a .471 hitting percentage, also a career best. Her 19 kills are the program's most in a three-set match since 2018 (Devon Heitkamp - 20) adding a solo block and two block assists for a career high 21 points.

Freshman Paige Hoodlebrink led the team with 16 assists hitting a perfect five-for-five and adding seven digs and two service aces. Riley Treece bagged her first career double-double earning 13 digs and assisting ten times.

"I thought the team played well together," continued Bonham. "We worked together, moved together and talked about every touch. Looking at the numbers, our offense was on point tonight. If we continue to put up numbers like that, good things will continue to happen."

UNOH stays home for their next matchup which will take place Friday, September 12 when (RV) Indiana Tech makes the trip to Lima.
