Racers Fall in Three in WHAC Opener
DEFIANCE, OH - UNOH volleyball had a difficult start to the conference schedule Wednesday night falling in three straight sets to Defiance.
The Racers fell behind early in the first set, 10-2, and could never recover falling 25-16. They recovered in set two leading most of the way but a late push by the Yellow Jackets was enough to force extra points to decide a winner. UNOH struck first and took a 25-24 match point, but again Defiance stood tall scoring four of the final five points to steal the win 28-26. The third game was back and forth early on sitting even at 6-6 before an 11-4 run by the Yellow Jackets gave them a big 17-10 lead. The Racers again couldn't close the gap giving up the set 25-17 and falling 3-0 in the match.
UNOH was led in the scoring column by Abigail Martin who finished with 11.5 points off eleven kills and one assisted block. Aliyah Saylor scored nine with eight kills and two block assists while Shamyria DuBose recording 8.5 points on four kills, two solo blocks and three block assists.
Paige Hoodlebrink led the team with 16 assists with Riley Treece leading on the defensive side with ten digs.
UNOH will head up to Shawnee State for their next matchup with the two programs meeting for the first time since 2017 on Saturday, September 6.
