Racers Advance to WHAC Championship
LIMA, OH - Top-seeded UNOH women's tennis advanced to the championship match of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament with a 4-0 win over fourth-seed Cornerstone on Tuesday.
The Racers made quick work of their semifinal opponent surrendering just one set in the entire match.
The first point came from a doubles victory where Telma Herreros and Agathe Vaillant took the second line 6-0 with Margarita Tatur and Melissa Jangarasheva finishing third line 6-0. Munisa Ashurbekova and Ekaterina Orlova went unfinished in the first line leading 4-1.
The final three points came from singles four, five and six all in straight sets. Jangarasheva played fourth line, Herreros was fifth, and Tatur played sixth. Singles one and two saw Ashurbekova and Orlova both win their first sets 6-1 but end unfinished in set two up 1-0. Agathe Vaillant took set one 6-0 in the third line and led 3-0 in set two when the match concluded.
Lawrence Tech defeated Indiana Tech 4-0 in the other semifinal matchup setting up a final showdown between the top two teams in the league on Wednesday. The Racers will face the Blue Devils in the WHAC Championship at 10:00 AM on April 23 at Westwood Tennis and Fitness Center.
