Omarkhanov Places 4th, Ripolles 8th at ITA Cup

ROME, GA - After a strong showing in the ITA Midwest Regional, UNOH tennis took on the best players in the country at the ITA Cup. Malik Omarkhanov finished as a semifinalist, earning a fourth place finish while Alizee Ripolles used a first-round upset to make it to the quarterfinals, finishing 8th.

 

Omarkhanov had to battle through the first two rounds winning 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 in the round of 16 and 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. His run came to an end in the semis falling 1-6, 2-6 to the No. 4 ranked player. Midwest Regional champion Sergio Conde was upset in the first round 6-7, 4-6. Conde went on to win his ninth place bracket matchup 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. 

Both Omarkhanov and Conde also took on the doubles portion of the ITA Cup but couldn't get out of the first round. Omarkhanov teamed up with Martin Stanchev and needed an extra set to determine a winner falling 2-6, 6-2, 8-10. In their West Stage match, Omarkhanov and Stanchev ended up retired after winning 6-4 and trailing 1-5. Conde joined Lucas Perez for their doubles matchup losing 2-6, 4-6. Conde and Perez were able to complete their West Stage matchup but lost 4-6, 2-6.

 

On the women's side, Alizee Ripolles was the team's only representative in the ITA Cup after becoming the first Racer to win the the women's regional title since 2016. Ripolles upset the No. 3 ranked player in the round of 16 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 before falling in the quarterfinals 0-6, 1-6. She also lost her fifth place bracket matchup 3-6, 2-6 to place eighth overall.

 

The ITA Cup  marks the final competition of the fall for both tennis teams as they break for the winter season before getting back under way in the spring.
