UNOH Blanks RCU 5-0, Advances to WHAC Semifinals

LIMA, OH - UNOH women's soccer took care of business in the WHAC Quarterfinals Saturday afternoon shutting down Rochester Christian and netting four second half goals to advance with a 5-0 victory.

The Racers found the back of the net just one time in the first half and it came off a header by Ella Beaton-Hill in the 32nd minute. The game stayed tight and played mostly in the midfield with just six total shots between the teams over 45 minutes holding 1-0 into halftime.

The second half was a different story as UNOH controlled the pace from the start and began to overwhelm the Warrior defense. They doubled their lead with a second in the 64th off the foot of Camila Rico followed by two quick goals from the WHAC's leading scorer, Mathilda Berg Karlsson. Karlsson netted her brace with scores in the 73rd and 76th minutes to give her 15 on the season. For good measure, the Racers finished the day with a fifth goal in the 89th minute as Marie Roman bagged her second of the year to cap a 5-0 victory and earn a spot in the WHAC Semifinals.

The UNOH defense held Rochester Christian without a shot on goal to earn their tenth shutout of the year. Sophia Eisner was the beneficiary of a stout back line earning her 15th win of the year without needing to make a save.

As the top seed in the tournament, UNOH will host their way through with the conference semifinals next on the docket one week from today. Five-seed Siena Heights upset four-seed Madonna on penalty kicks in the other quarterfinal matchup setting up a showdown between the Racers and Saints at Racer Stadium Saturday, November 8. The two teams last met on October 11 with UNOH taking the win 3-0.
