LIMA, OH - For the first time since 2019, UNOH women's soccer has been crowned regular season WHAC Champions after finishing off the regular season campaign with a 2-1 win over Lawrence Tech Saturday afternoon. With the title also comes the conference's first automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship First and Second Rounds that will begin November 20.
The first goal of the day came in the 23rd minute off a corner kick by Celia Catalan Keck. After a defensive save kept UNOH off the board initially, the Racers earned another and capitalized off a dime by Keck. The ball found the head of Risa Nishida on the near post who headed the ball perfectly into the top corner.
The championship was eventually decided in the 39th minute thanks to a mistake on the back end by Lawrence Tech. Rhiannon O'Looney jumped in front of a pass deflecting the ball towards the Blue Devil goal and behind the backline. One-on-one with the keeper, O'Looney flicked the ball casually past the keeper to put UNOH up 2-0 heading into halftime.
The second half was dominated by the Racers but they couldn't find the back of the net again as the Blue Devil keeper got hot and made six saves over the 45 minutes to hold them to just the two first half goals. Lawrence Tech was able to clean up a lose ball in the box with just five seconds remaining in the match but it had no effect on the outcome as UNOH capped a 10-1 conference season with a 2-1 victory.
With the regular season in the rearview mirror, UNOH will now set their sites on the post season that will begin next Saturday with the WHAC Quarterfinals. The Racers will play host to six-seed Rochester Christian who finished 3-4-4 in the conference play this year. The two faced off just eight days ago in Michigan with UNOH edging out a tight 2-1 victory.
