Early Goal Pushes Women's Soccer Past Madonna

LIMA, OH - In a first-versus-fourth WHAC matchup Wednesday afternoon, UNOH scored early and held that advantage through the end keeping their title hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Madonna.

The only goal of the day came just three minutes into the match on the first shot of the game. Going quick from a throw in, Alivia Chambers found Mathilda Berg Karlsson attacking on the right side of the 18-yard box. Karlsson worked around a defender and fed Vivian Purmonen all alone in the center. Purmonen ripped first time giving the keeper no chance and putting the Racers up 1-0.

Despite dominating on the field, UNOH was denied repeatedly by the Crusader keeper who put together a stellar performance making 15 saves and holding the Racers to a single goal for just the fourth time in 14 games.

The UNOH defence earned their ninth shutout of the year, which tied for the second most in the country, allowing just three of five shots on target while putting 16 of their 23 on goal.

Sophia Eisner (11-2-0) picked up career win number 30, the second most in program history, making three critical saves to hold Madonna off the board for her 18th career shutout, also second best.

UNOH will head to Rochester Christian next for their final road game of the season on Saturday, October 18. It will be a night game against the Warriors beginning at 7:00 PM played at the Michigan Stars Soccer Complex in Washington, Mich.
