SYLVANIA, OH - On the road at the WHAC's last remaining undefeated team, UNOH women's soccer survived their clash with Lourdes thanks to a late goal that gave them a 2-1 win and a tie for first in the conference.
The match looked like it would stay scoreless through the first 45 but a late foul by the Grey Wolves changed the course of the game 30 seconds before halftime. The foul set up a free kick from 24 yards out that was taken by Celia Catalan Keck. Keck fired the ball past the wall but it took a deflection from a secondary defender that sent it away from the keeper and into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the break.
Lourdes took advantage of an early opportunity in the second half netting the equalizer off a penatly kick in the 52nd minute. UNOH dominated the next 25 minutes and put three of five shots on target but the fourth was the charm in the 76th minute. After earning a corner kick, Keck played the ball into the box but it was cleared double-fisted out by the Lourdes keeper. Camila Rico jumped on the ball and played it back out to Keck who delivered a strike to the head of Keira Ferns that finished down away from the keeper for a 2-1 lead. Both teams created chances down the stretch but the one goal difference remained at the final horn giving UNOH win.
Sophia Eisner (9-2-0) made two saves to earn the win working all 90 minutes in front of goal.
UNOH will return home for another tough matchup on Saturday, October 11 when they take on Siena Heights as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
