LIMA, OH - UNOH women's soccer put together a convincing performance against No. 18 Campbellsville Saturday afternoon. The Racers scored in each half while shutting down a dangerous Tiger offense for a 2-0 win.
Campbellsville entered the day averaging more than two goals a game but were held to just three total shots by the UNOH defense. The Racers, however, racked up eleven total shots scoring twice on four that hit the target.
The first came in the 23rd minute from a deep free kick taken by Camila Rico. Rico sent a high ball into the box that was headed up in the air by Mathilda Berg Karlsson. The Tiger keeper had come off her line to make a play on the ball and the header by Karlsson came down right in front of goal and bounced untouched into the net.
UNOH found paydirt a second time in the 66th minute with a swift counter attack off a Campbellsville turnover. Rhiannon O'Looney took the ball off the turnover and lifted a long pass to a wide open Vivian Purmonen running up the middle of the field. After tracking down the long ball on the right side of the 18-yard box, Purmonen made a quick move left across the face of a defender giving her space to send the ball across. O'Looney came streaking through the box and took it in stride hitting first time and giving the keeper no chance.
Sophia Eisner (4-1-0) earned the win in front of goal but was only needed twice making both saves to preserve her third clean sheet of the season.
UNOH has a week off before opening conference play on the road with a match against UM-Dearborn on Saturday, September 20.
