Women's Soccer Loses Hard-Fought Match at No. 6 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The top 25 matchup lived up to its expectations Saturday afternoon as No. 22 UNOH took on No. 6 Marian at ASV Field in Indianapolis. Both teams netted a goal in the first half hour, but it was the Knights who found the late magic they needed to steal the win 2-1 over the Racers.

The first goal of the game came in the 21st minute off a perfectly excecuted counter attack to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The Racers pulled the game level less than ten minutes later thanks to a perfect cross by Mathilda Berg Karlsson. Karlsson found Ella Beaton-Hill just outside the 6-yard box who headed the ball over the keeper and under the crossbar to tie the game 1-1.

Marian controlled most of the second half and produced the four of the half's five shot attempts. The fourth was dagger for UNOH as Marian found the back of the net a second time and took the lead 2-1. The Racers had a chance to level the match just two minutes later but were denied by the keeper and the Knights held on for the win.

After making her goalie debut on Monday, Keira Ferns worked the full 90 in her first career start in front of net making three saves.

UNOH will return to Lima for their home opener on Wednesday, September 10 when they face Mt. Vernon Nazarene at 4:00 PM.
