Historic Performance by Binyahya Lifts UNOH to Championship at Stonehedge

AUGUSTA, MI - UNOH women's golf won their first event of the year on Saturday at the LTU Shootout at Stonehedge fueled by a recording setting performance by Sharifah Binyahya. The Racers shot a 318 on day one which was the team's lowest round of the season to that point and sat four strokes behind host Lawrence Tech. Round two saw some stellar performances for UNOH as they trimmed their score to 306 and jumped the Blue Devils to lift the team trophy by one stroke with a 624.

Binyahya was the highlight of the tournament winning her fifth individual medal in eight events this season. She followed up a first round 76 with an incredible 5-under 67 in the second, the lowest round in program history, finishing the two rounds with a 1-under 143 to become the first player to finish under par in any tournament of more than one round in the history of the program. Kayla Watkins and Kudzai Mandava both earned their first career top five finishes placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Watkins shot 78 in round one and a season low 77 in round two for a score of 155. Mandava was one stroke behind after rounds of 79 and 77.

Kenadie Deager also picked up a top 15 spot shooting identical rounds of 85 good for a 170 and a tie for 13th. Riley Daeger rounded out the team scoring with a 189 and Grace Weikle finished with a 227 playing as an idividual.

UNOH will now prepare for the WHAC Championship tournament that will take place April 22-23 back at Stonehedge Golf Course in Augusta, Michigan.
