Women's Golf Bags Sixth Straight WHAC Title
AUGUSTA, MI - UNOH women's golf ran away in the WHAC Women's Championship to take their sixth straight title by 40 strokes. The Racers improved each round shooting 303, 298 and 296 for a tournament total of 897, the program's second lowest 54-hole score of all-time. Lawrence Tech placed second with a 937 followed by Siena Heights, Cleary and Aquinas to round out the top five.
All five Racers placed in the top ten of a 59-player field with Sharifah Binyahya taking the individual title by two strokes over teammate Ebba Nordin. Binyahya carded her a season low 72 in round two with a 73 and 76 in rounds one and three, respectively. Her tournament score of 221 is the second lowest 54-hole total behind the record she set herself two years ago. Nordin sat in sixth place after shooting 79 and 75 on the first day of the event but stormed back in round three with a career low 69, matching the second lowest in program history, to jump four spots into second. Her final score of 223 is a career low and the program's third best ever.
Primross Chikwaya, coming off setting a new program record with a 68 two weeks ago, finished in fourth with a career best 226 after rounds of 76, 75 and 75. Rafaella Brigante rounded out the top five with a season best 75 in round one followed by a 78 and a 76 for her a season low 229.
Kayla Watkins finished off the team scoring with a ninth place finish. She opened the tournament with a difficult 86 and sat 26th overall, but recovered to shoot her own career best 76 in round two finishing with a 78 to earn her first top ten finish with a career low 240.
With the conference championship under their belt, UNOH earns an automatic bid to the Women's Golf National Championship played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. on May 14-17.
