Racers Win Regular Season Finale, Will Head to Lourdes for WHAC Tourney
DEARBORN, MI - UNOH women's basketball wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with a tight victory over UM-Dearborn, 54-49.
The Racers trailed most of the first quarter but their defense took over in the second holding the Wolverines to just one bucket the entire frame. It was a 16-2 quarter for UNOH as they took control and carried a 32-19 lead into the break.
UM-Dearborn chipped away at the lead in the third and carried that momentum into the fourth pulling within five, 43-38, with 6:47 left to play. From that point forward, the two teams were dead even matching 11-11 and giving the Racers their fifth win the their last six games to end the regular season.
Brooke Asher scored a game high 14 points doing most of her work at the charity stripe where she finished 8-8. Olivia Thompson and Lori Huffman were the only other Racers to hit double-figures putting up twelve points each. Huffman also bagged 17 total rebounds to earn her fourth double-double of the year. She finishes the regular season as the nation's top freshman rebounder averaging 11.7 per game.
UNOH will enter the post season as the six-seed in the WHAC Tournament which sets up another showdown against last year's tournament champion Lourdes, the three-seed. The Racers and Gray Wolves split their regular season matchups but the most recent result went to UNOH just three days ago, 83-75. The WHAC Quarterfinal will take place Wednesday, February 25, with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 PM.
