Men's Tennis Cruises to Another WHAC Tournament Title

MIDLAND, MI - UNOH Men's tennis completed their ninth-straight sweep of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular season and tournament titles with a 4-0 win over Cornerstone in the Championship on Thursday.

 

As the top seed in the tournament, UNOH held a bye into the semifinals where they took care of fourth-seeded Indiana Tech 4-1. In the championship match, the Racers had no trouble quickly dispatching of (RV) Cornerstone 4-0.

Martin Stanchev and Malik Omarkhanov won No. 1 doubles 6-2 with Lucas Perez and Sergio Conde taking No. 2 6-3 for the first point of the match.

The three clinching singles points came from No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 with Martin Stanchev winning 6-1, 6-1, Malik Omarkhanov winning 6-1, 6-0 and Mathieu Strauss winning 6-4 6-2.

 

The tournament title gives UNOH the conferences automatic bid to the 72nd Annual Men's Tennis National Championships. The First Round begins May 14 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. leading to the National Championship on Saturday, May 18.
