A Decade of Dominance: Men's Tennis Lifts Ninth WHAC Title
GRAND RAPIDS, MI - UNOH Men's Tennis blanked Aquinas 7-0 in the final conference match of the season to complete their tenth straight undefeated campaign and their ninth-straight regular season title.
The Saints are the last WHAC opponent to beat the Racers ten years ago on April 5, 2014, but UNOH has gone 49-0 since with a perfect 6-0 record this season.
Malik Omarkhanov and Martin Stanchev teamed up to win No. 1 doubles 6-3 with Lucas Perez and Nils Messin taking the No. 2 position 6-3 giving UNOH the first point of the match. The Racers didn't drop a set in singles play winning 60 of 73 games. Martin Stanchev won 6-0, 6-3, Malik Omarkhanov won 6-2, 6-1, Lucas Perez won 6-0, 6-2, Kwanda Mblekwa won 6-3, 6-0 and Jacob Ramirez won 6-1, 6-1 with Nils Messin earning the final point by default.
With the No. 1 seed entering the 2023-24 Men's Tennis Tournament, UNOH will get a bye to the semifinals played at Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich. on April 24 with the championship to be played April 25.
