WINONA LAKE, IN - In the last non-conference match of the regular season, UNOH traveled to Grace to take on the No. 5 Lancers in their second straight night game. The Racers fought back to tie the game late, but Grace stole the night with a game winning goal in the final minutes.
UNOH seemed to control the pace of the match early on allowing just two shots in the first 45 minutes and just one on goal. The Racers finished with five and two but had nothing to show for it with the game still locked 0-0 at the break.
The Lancers wasted no time in the second scoring the first goal of the match on their first shot of the half. That score held for almost 30 minutes before UNOH pulled things even. In the 78th minute, Diego Cerezo took a swing at the ball as he fell backwards just outside the 18. The strike was perfect and put the ball over the keeper and into the top corner with 12:38 to play. The match looked positive from a neutral point-of-view as the clock ticked away. With just over two minutes remaining, the Lancers dealt the Racers a devastating blow with a headed ball off a cross that beat the keeper and put them back on top for good.
Ross Synnott (0-2-0) picked up the loss after a full 90 in front of goal with four saves. Synnott has seen a difficult start to his career at UNOH with his second straight 2-1 loss to a top five team.
The physical match saw the teams combine for 30 fouls and six cautions split evenly between the two.
The Racers will open conference play in their next match as they travel to Siena Heights on Saturday, September 23, for a 1:00 PM kickoff
