UNOH Pulls Away in Final Round to Win 2026 WHAC Championship

YORKTOWN, IN - After back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2024 and 2025, UNOH men's golf has gotten themselves back on top of the conference with an impressive showing at the 2026 WHAC Championship. The Racers doubled their lead in the final round to run away from two-time defending champion Lawrence Tech and swipe the conference title by 16 strokes, the WHAC's largest margin since 2019 (UNOH - 43 strokes). Since 2018, the Racers and Blue Devils are the only two team's to win a tournament title with each claiming the trophy four times during that stretch.

UNOH led by eight strokes after the first day of the event with rounds of 292 and 293, respectively. On day two, the Racers boasted the only sub 300 round of the day doubling their lead with a 297 for a tournament total of 882.

"I am so excited for this team," said an exuberant head coach Eric West following his second WHAC Championship with the program. "They are a special group of guys that work hard every day; in the training room with Coach Justin [Rea] and out on the golf course. Golf is a very tough sport. It takes a strong mentality to compete and win at a high level. This group has continued to do that week in and week out."

Jose Luis Vargas led the team after jumping three spots day over day for a second place finish, his third top five of the season. After rounds of 74 and 71, Vargas finished with a 1-over 73 falling just two strokes short of the top spot with a 218. Oliver Rogers also earned his third top five of the year ending in a three way tie for fourth place with a 221 shooting rounds of 71, 73 and 77. Guillermo Garron made it three Racers in the top ten earning a tie of eighth with a 224. It is the seniors sixth top ten finish in eight events this season after carding rounds of 75, 74 and 75.

Kyle Sutton and Luke S. Turner rounded out the team scoring in 15th and 17th, respectively. Sutton shot 78 and 75 on day one before finishing with his best round of the tournament with a day two 74. Turner hit 72 in round one followed by a difficult 81 in round two, but he recovered nicely to end the event with a 75 and a total of 228.

"We wanted to extend our season," continued West, "and give our only senior, Guillermo [Garron], another three weeks of college golf and his third trip to the National Championship. That is the number one goal for our program every year. Goal accomplished! I am so proud of our program."

With the team win, UNOH punches their ticket to that NAIA National Championship, their third in four years, beginning May 12 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
