Men's Golf Jumps Three Spots in Final Round of Music City Classic
OLD HICKORY, TN - UNOH men's golf entered the final round tied for seventh in the loaded Music City Classic field that included nine Top 25 teams, two receiving votes and the No. 12 team in Division II of the NJCAA. Despite the trials of the first two rounds, the Racers put together their best team round since the first event of the fall on day two to jump three spots into third place for the program's biggest day over day move since 2019 (WHAC Jamboree 3 - 5th to 2nd).
UNOH wasn't far off the pace after rounds of 289 and 285, both in the team's top ten this season, but the brutal field had them chasing the top of the pack entering the final round. Four of the five Racers climbed the ladder on day two to help their team jump into the top five with a 9-under 279 behind only No. 1 Keiser, (RV) Grand View and No. 4 Webber International. Seven ranked teams fell in behind including No. 13 Marian, No. 14 Lindsey Wilson, No. 18 Cumberlands, No. 19 Hastings, No. 21 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 23 Southeaster, and No. 24 Rocky Mountain.
Jose Luis Vargas was the team's top finisher earning his fourth top ten in a three way tie for eighth. Vargas shot under par all three rounds, highlighted by a round two 69, for a 6-under 210 total. Oliver Rogers was the team's biggest mover climbing 21 spots from day one to day two capped by a 69 in round three to earn an even-par 216.
Luke S. Turner was two strokes in front of Rogers after his best 54-hole tournament of the season despite being the only Racer to drop on day two. Turner was 3-under entering round three and carded a 1-over 73 to finish off 2-under for the tournament with a 214.
Guillermo Garron jumped 16 spots in round three to join Rogers at even par with rounds of 72, 74 and 70. Kyle Sutton rounded out the team scoring with a 221 and, thanks to his best 18-holes of the season, moved up 16 places on the final day.
The event marks the final regular season trip to the links for UNOH as they will look to carry that momentum into the WHAC Championship next week. For the first time, the post season tournament has a new home this season after previously being hosted in Augusta, Michigan. The 2026 version will be played at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana on April 20-21.
