Racers Outscore Yellow Jackets 31-4 in Doubleheader Sweep

DEFIANCE, OH - UNOH had their way with one of the bottom teams in the conference Sunday afternoon lighting up the board for 31 runs over two games winning 16-2 and 15-2 over Defiance.

The Racers had a steady stream of offense in game one plating at least one run in six of seven innings. Cesar Grau drove in the first of third to start the game with Tyler Huff bring in the next two. Grau helped again in the second before Zach Grigalis made it a six-run game with a two-RBI double. After another pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, UNOH blew things open with a five-spot in the sixth highlighted by a Fabian Romero two-run triple. Tyler Huff concluded a perfect 5-5 performance with a RBI double in the seventh to finish off the scoring.

Zach Cabell (5-3) earned the win with five and two-thirds innings of work. The senior hurler gave up two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. Carter Hicks retired the only batter he faced in the sixth before Parker Kerr took over in the seventh facing the minimum to finish the game.

The Racers left the bases loaded in their first inning of game two but they made up for it in the second thanks to Defiance walking the bases loaded again to open the frame. Fabian Romero and Eliomar Otero followed with back-to-back singles but the action was just getting started. Cesar Grau cleared the bags with a grand slam, his team leading seventh of the season, and after two more singles Casey Barnes banged a three-run bomb of his own to cap a nine-run inning. Zach Grigalis drove in two more in the third with the final four runs coming in the fifth. A two-run double for Nolan Hull and a two-run single for Tyler Huff did the damage to make it a run-rule Racer victory in the nightcap.

Sinjon Bobolia (6-2) went five innings off the start allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five without giving up a walk. Josh Mauney and Jordan Davis each tossed an inning of relief ball with two hits, two strikeouts and a walk between them.

Cesar Grau needed just three hits to drive in a team high seven runs while Tyler Huff added two more hits to his day making him 7-10 over the two games with six RBI of his own. Eliomar Otero went 5-6 and Nolan Hull ended 5-9 with each of them recording three RBI and combining for seven runs scored.

UNOH enters the final week of the regular season with a one game lead over second place (RV) Indiana Tech who they beat twice earlier this year. The Racers will have the advantage of playing at home for their final four games where they boast a 26-0 record against conference opponents over the last two seasons. It will be a first-versus-last matchup for the title with a four game series against UM-Dearborn and a chance to claim the program's first ever three-peat in either the regular season or post season.
