Racers Split Doubleheader at Siena Heights
ADRIAN, MI - On the second weekend of conference play, UNOH baseball was held off in their first of two games at Siena Heights, 6-5, but rallied to run away with the nightcap, 21-4.
The Racer defense was shaky and their offense struggled to get going in game one resulting in a 5-0 deficit heading into the sixth of seven innings. Finally, after just four hits in their first five at bats, UNOH strung together five straight that helped bring in their first two runs of the game. A RBI groundout with bases loaded scored a third with a sacrifice fly adding a fourth before the sixth hit of the inning tied the game at 5-5.
Siena Heights was unphased by the comeback and used a pair of hits in the home half of the frame to get themselves back on top for good. A lead off double in the top of the seventh gave the Racers hope to at least tie the game again, but the next three batters went down in order ending the game one run short of Siena Heights.
Jordan Davis (1-1) was the back luck bearer with the game winning run coming across while he was on the mound, despite the responsibility for the runner falling on shoulders of Blake O'Bryan. Five different Racers climbed the bumb in game one combining to allow just two earned runs on eleven total hits. Josh Mauney worked the longest stint with two runs given up on four hits over two and a third innings.
The late offensive production from game one spilled over into game two for UNOH as they wasted little time getting on top. Five hits in the second translated into a six-run inning for the Racers but the offense was just getting started. Four more knocks in the third combined with an error and a sacrifice fly for the team's second six-spot in as many trips and a commanding 12-0 lead through three.
UNOH slugged six more hits in the fifth adding four runs with two hits and four walks leading to four more in the sixth. The day's scoring was capped by one more sacrifice fly in the seventh after a double and a single put runners on the corners.
Sinjon Bobolia (4-2) was responsible for all four Siena Heights runs but picked up the win thanks to his offense after five and two-thirds innings of work. Perry product Ryan Yingst tossed one out in the sixth with freshman Dylan Pollitt making his first appearance and striking out two of the final three outs to finish off the game.
It was a stellar offensive day for Cesar Grau who logged three doubles and three RBI while going 6-8 over the two games. Zach Grigalis and Eliomar Otero each tallied five hits on the day with two and three RBI, respectively. Tyler Huff and Brennan Green recorded four hits each and combined for seven total RBI
UNOH returns home Sunday, March 22, for a tough doubleheader against last years WHAC Tournament Champion, No. 19 Indiana Tech.
