UTICA, MI - After putting up 38 runs on Friday, UNOH struggled to get the bats going on Saturday earning a doubleheader split against conference foe Lawrence Tech on the road.
The Racers' cause was aided by a stellar performance on the mound for the reigning WHAC Pitcher of the Year, Daniel Healy. The sophomore slinger struck out seven and allowed just two base runners, in his first complete game of the season.
UNOH was able to get the only score of the game in their first at bat after back-to-back singles by Eliomar Otero and Zach Grigalis put runners on the corners. Cesar Grau followed with a deep crack to center field that scored Otero off a sacrifice fly. Both mound merchants were in control the rest of the way with neither team working a runner past second base.
The team's six hits came from five different batters with Grigalis leading the way with his fourth consecutive multi-hit outing and sixth in the last eight.
Game two was a complete turnaround from game one as Lawrence Tech jumped on UNOH starter Sinjon Bobolia for six hits and seven runs in their first trip to the plate. Bobolia settled in and gave up just one more hit in the next two innings before being forced out with two outs in the fourth. The Blue Devils added another run in that frame with two more in the fifth and one in the sixth.
The Racers were helped to their first and only run of the game after a Casey Barnes single, a hit batter and an error in the fifth loaded the bags. Eric Brown finished it off with an RBI ground out but it would be the last glimpse of offense through the final two innings.
After three and two-thirds innings, Bobolia's line ended with eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Noah Curi finished off the final two innings with three runs allowed, two earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
UNOH will return home for one game on Sunday in a rescheduled game two against Cornerstone at 2:00 PM.
