Baseball Drops Cumberlands Series with 6-4 Loss in Game Three

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - UNOH squared off with No. 6 Cumberlands Friday afternoon in the last of a three-game series in Kentucky. The Racers started on top 4-1 but the Patriots rallied with five unanswered runs to steal the win, 6-4, and take the series, 2-1.

Cumberlands scored first thanks to consecutive two-out singles in their first at bat of the game. UNOH returned the favor the very next inning using a Casey Barnes two-out double to even the game through two. Things spiraled quickly for the Patriots in the top of the third as the Racers managed to get three runs across without recording a hit.

Three walks and three hit batters did the work for UNOH as they went up by three but it was quickly answered in the home half by three Patriot runs settling at 4-4 after three. The teams combined for just three hits over the next two and a half innings before Cumberlands took control for good with the final two runs in the home sixth. Second base was as far as either team could get through the final three innings as the bullpens locked down the offenses giving the Patriots the win.

Daniel Healy tossed the first three innings allowing four runs on six hits, three earned, with three strike outs and one walk. Zach Cabell (2-2) also worked three but took the loss after surrendering the final two runs of the game. Brayden Lybarger and Ryan Yingst combined in the seventh with Jordan Davis finishing the final frame all without a hit.

UNOH had their original home opener rained out earlier this week but will they give it a second try on Tuesday, March 10 when they host St. Francis (IL) in their final two games before conference play begins.
