Baseball Ends Georgetown Series with Doubleheader Split
GEORGETOWN, KY - The UNOH and Georgetown baseball teams concluded their four-game series on Sunday with each team claiming a victory. The Racers rolled through game one 12-2 but the Tigers finished with their only win of the series in game two, 6-4.
Zach Grigalis got the scoring started in the second inning with his first home run of the year that plated two. Tyler Filinger followed with a solo shot of his own and the Racers led 3-1 after two. Casey Barnes hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth before another three runs blew the game open in the fifth. UNOH strung together four singles in the inning and were aided by a walk and an error to go up 7-1.
The teams traded a run in the sixth but it was the Racers finishing strong with their third crooked number in the final frame. A walk and a hit batter opened the seventh and Filinger singled to left to bringing in the first. A walk and a sacrifice fly scored another before another walk and a single drove in the final two runs of the game.
It was a big game for Filinger who ended 4-4 including a triple and a home run that drove in three runs. Tyler Huff was also strong at the dish finishing 3-4 with two RBI while Grigalis hit 2-3 with three runs batted in.
Sinjon Bobolia (2-1) worked six innings to earn the win allowing two runs on six hits with four strike outs and only one walk. Parker Kerr and Nate Tappenden combined for the final three outs with up one walk, one hit and one strike out.
UNOH started with a run in the third inning of game two but the Tigers were quick to respond with a single run of their own in the fourth. After just two hits over the first four frames, Georgetown tallied five over the fifth and sixth innings that translated to five runs and a 6-1 lead after six. The Racers tried to replicate their comeback win from game two the day before but fell short despite two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Five of UNOH's seven hits went for extra bases led by Casey Barnes who finished with two doubles as the only Racer with multiple hits in the game.
Brayden Lybarger (0-4) had a tough day at the office allowing six runs on six with six strike outs and three walks to take the loss. Josh Mauney pitched two strong innings of middle relief with one hit and four strike outs without walking a batter. Ryan Yingst and Blake O'Bryan combined to finish the final frame without allowing a hit with each striking out one.
UNOH is scheduled for six straight home games beginning Wednesday, March 4 against Wilberforce followed by St. Francis (IL) and the WHAC opener versus Cornerstone.
