Racers Split First Two Games against IU Southeast

WESTFIELD, IN - UNOH baseball opened a four-game series against IU Southeast on Saturday playing at a neutral site in Indiana. Game one went to the Grenadiers 11-4 but the Racers rallied to win game two 6-2.

Hitting was on display early in game one with runs scored in each of the first five innings. IU Southeast struck first with two runs in their first at bat but back-to-back Racer singles got one back in the second. The Grenadiers added another in the bottom of the frame and tacked on three more in the home third putting them up 6-1.

Two hit batters opened the UNOH fourth setting up Eric Brown who ripped a triple to the deepest part of the field and brought in both runners. Nolan Hull made it a three-run inning with a single up the middle to pull within two, but IUS continued to pour it on scoring on in the fourth and four more in the fifth put seven runs between the teams. The game produced just four more hits over the next four innings and the fifth inning advantage held as the final, 11-4.

Sinjon Bobolia (0-1) took the loss after an inning and two-thirds of work. He allowed three runs with just one earn on three hits with two walks and one strike out. Carter Hicks and Jordan Davis combined for two and a third in middle relief with four runs on four hits and three walks. Aiden Nugent entered in the fifth and finished the final four innings allowing four runs on five hits with six strike outs and three walks.

UNOH never trailed in game two using a two out RBI triple off the bat of Cesar Grau that put them up 1-0 in the top of the first. Another triple, this time from Fabian Romero, gave them a second in the fourth followed by a sacrifice fly that made it 3-0. After the Grenadiers got one back in the bottom of the fourth, the Racers went to work with two outs again.

A RBI single brought in the first with a double and a another single driving in two more for a commanding 6-1 lead. A solo homer scored the final run of the day with neither team getting a runner past first the rest of the game for a 6-2 Racer win.

Zach Cabell (1-1) worked a complete game gem, the first of his career, giving up two runs on four hits with eight strike outs and just one walk.

Eric Brown led the team at the dish going 4-7 over of the two games with three RBI. Eliomar Otero also had a strong day going 3-8 with one RBI and two stolen bases. 

UNOH will go back to work against IU Southeast on Sunday with games three and four of the four-game series played at Grand Park Complex.
