UNOH Holds onto First Place with Split at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, IN - UNOH (22-13, 18-4) couldn't overcome a four-run fourth for Indiana Tech (25-10, 11-7) dropping game one 7-4. The Racers shut down the Warriors in game two earning a 10-0 run-rule win in seven.

 

Game 1: Indiana Tech 7 UNOH 4 (7 Innings)

 The Warriors cracked the board first bringing in two in the home first. The next two innings saw just one hit between the teams and the game entered the fourth still 2-0. Tyler Grigalis led off the frame with a solo shot to right field, his fourth homer of the season and his first since February 26. Back-to-back errors put runners on and Nathan Alvarez hit a RBI groundout to tie the game. Alex Velasco put UNOH on top with a RBI single to left but it was short lived as Indiana Tech worked in four in the bottom. After the Warriors added another in the fifth, the score held entering the final frame. A RBI groundout by Darius Freeman gave the Racers one, but the comeback fell short 7-4.

Eliomar Otero was the only Racer with multiple hits going 2-4 at the plate. Tyler Grigalis, Darius Freeman, Nathan Alvarez and Alex Velasco each earned one RBI in the game.

 Jeremy Yurcak got the start but went just one inning giving up two runs off two hits with one strikeout. Wyatt Johnson pitched two and a third giving up three runs off just one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Jack Olberding (2-1) took his first loss of the season with one inning of work. Olberding gave up two runs off two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Tony Manzano tossed the final one and two-thirds innings giving up two hits while striking out two and walking one.

 

Game 1: UNOH 10 Indiana Tech 0 (7 Innings)

 UNOH wasted no time taking control of game two scoring three in the first. With runners on second and third, Seth Freeman doubled to the gap scoring the first two and Nolan Hull singled up the gut for the third. The Racers threatened again in the second but stranded a runner on third. With two outs in the third, Nathan Alvarez blasted his first home run of the season over the left field fence giving UNOH three more and a 6-0 lead. The Racers continued to keep the Warrior offense in check and added on again in the fifth. A lead off walk and two errors loaded the bases and Justice Panton scored two with a shot down the first base line. Alex Velasco doubled with two outs in the sixth and Nathan Alvarez brought home another with a single to right. Erick Castro scored the final run of the game with a RBI single to the right center gap in the seventh. 

 Seth Freeman and Erick Castro were both 3-4 in the game. Freeman finished with two RBI and Castro had one. Nathan Alvarez earned a career high four RBI going 2-4 at the dish. Justice Panton was 2-2 with two RBI, Drake Miller went 2-2 and Tyler Grigalis was 2-5. 

Michael Joyce (2-2) earned the win with four and a third innings of work. Joyce gave up the only two Warrior hits while walking four and striking out seven. Nick Soller, AJ Buchman and Rolando Heredia-Bustos combined to toss the final two and two-thirds innings with no hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

 

The Racers will host a four-game series against Lawrence Tech this weekend, April 22-23. Game one first pitch both days slated for 1:00 PM at R
