Racers Win Two at UM-Dearborn
WIXOM, MI - UNOH (21-12, 17-3) took care of business on the road sweeping a doubleheader over UM-Dearborn (3-29, 3-18) 11-3 and 17-2, respectively.
Game 1: UNOH 11 UMD 3
The Racers opened with four straight singles scoring two and Diego Clariot completed a three-run first with a sac fly to center. The Wolverines answered with two of their own in bottom to make it a 3-2 game after one. Back-to-back two-out doubles added one more for the Racers in the third before taking control in the fourth. Justice Panton and Erick Castro both went up the gut for RBI singles that plated three runs and Tyler Grigalis scored a fourth with his own RBI single to right. With two outs in the fifth and a runner on second, Ben Jackson pulled his team leading sixth home run of the season putting the Racers up 10-2. UNOH added one more with a lead off solo home run in the sixth from Erick Castro, his third of the season. UM-Dearborn managed one in the home seventh but it would be the only one.
Tyler Grigalis was a perfect 4-4, matching his career best, with a season high three RBI. Erick Castro also finished with three RBI going 3-4 at the plate. Darius Freeman was 2-4 with an RBI and Ben Jackson added two.
Sinjon Bobolia (3-2) picked up the win in his second start this season. Bobolia went six and two-thirds innings, a career high, giving up three runs off six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Shane Johnson tossed the final third giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Game 2: UNOH 17 UMD 2 (7 Innings)
It didn't take long for UNOH to take control in game two. The Racers used four hits, four walks, two steals, a wild pitch and a sac fly to plate five runs in their first at bat. The Wolverines managed just one hit over the first two frames and the Racers added on again in the third. Erick Castro scored the first with a RBI single and two more scored off an error. Darius Freeman capped a four-run inning with a gap double putting UNOH up 9-0. A walk and a double from Alex Velasco added another in the fourth, Nathan Alvarez brought in two with a double and Velasco scored one more with a sac fly in the fifth. Without a hit, UM-Dearborn scored their only two runs of the game thanks to five straight walks in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on second and third, two RBI ground outs from Drake Miller and Josue Ortiz added two more in the sixth. A lead-off double, a hit batter and three walks scored the final two for UNOH retiring the side in the bottom of the seventh for the run-rule win.
Erick Castro had his second three-hit game of the day going 3-3 with two RBI. Alex Velasco also finished 3-3 matching his career high with four RBI. Nathan Alvarez was 2-3 and Josue Ortiz went 2-6 both with two RBI.
Nick Johnson (2-0) started and went four and two-thirds innings giving up two runs off just one hit with six walks and six strikeouts. Shane Johnson and Jeremy Yurcak combined for an inning and a third of no-hit relief work and Eliott Traver threw a hitless seventh with two strikeouts.
UNOH will get back on the field Wednesday, April 19, with a double-header at Indiana Tech. First pitch of game one scheduled for 4:00 PM.
