UNOH Completes 4-Game Sweep at Rochester
ROYAL OAK, MI - After taking the first two games on Sunday, UNOH (14-10, 11-1) finished off the two-day sweep of Rochester (3-24, 1-13) Monday, April 3, with an 8-2 win in game three and a 13-6 win in game four, running up their win streak to eleven straight.
Game 1: UNOH 8 Rochester 2 (7 Innings)
UNOH got on the board first thanks to back-to-back passed balls in the top of the second. An error scored a second in the frame and the Racers kept Rochester hitless to hold a 2-0 lead after two. Darius Freeman brought in two more in the third with a single up the gut and ended up scoring on a balk for the fourth run of the game. Erick Castro scored the fifth run of the game with a RBI double to left. The Warriors got the first two hits of the game in the bottom to get one run back but the Racers held strong after three up 5-1. Darius Freeman scored Eliomar Otero in the fourth with an infield hit but Rochester answered again with one in the bottom. Erick Castro continued to stay hot at the dish with his second double of the game to put UNOH up 8-2. UNOH stalled offensively over the next two innings but allowed just one Warrior hit to take the win.
Darius Freeman and Erick Castro led the way combining to go 6-8 at the plate with five RBI. Justice Panton recorded his second multi-hit game of the season going 2-3 and Josue Ortiz finished with one RBI.
Michael Joyce (1-1) earned his first win of the season after working six innings off his fifth start. Joyce gave up two runs off four hits while striking out a season high eight batters and walking two. Jeremy Yurcak tossed the final inning giving up just one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
Game 2: UNOH 13 Rochester 6 (7 Innings - Rain Shortened)
Rochester found their offense early in the second game of the day plating five runs in the home first. UNOH had no trouble playing catching answering with five of the their own in the second. After a lead off walk, Darius Freeman followed with his second home run of the season. Nathan Alvarez got on with an infield hit and worked around to score after stealing second and taking the next two on consecutive passed balls. Erick Castro scored the fourth with his ninth extra base hit in the last nine games and the fifth came from Tyler Grigalis with a sacrifice to the pitcher that brought home Tim Hanible. The Warriors managed to get the lead back with one more in the bottom but it was short lived.
With two outs in the top of the third, UNOH strung together three straight singles to add three more runs and go up 8-6. After retiring the side in the third and the fourth, the Racers went to work again in the fifth. A hit batter, a walk, a single and an error got the offense going. Diego Clariot brought home a second run with a sac fly to center. With two outs, Tyler Grigalis scored a third with a RBI single and Seth Freeman followed with a pinch hit triple, the first of his career, that added two more. With UNOH up 13-6, the teams combined for just one more hit over the next two innings as heavy rain brought the game to an early conclusion in the top of the seventh.
Erick Castro concluded the series with another multi-hit and multi-RBI game, his sixth of each in the last nine games. Castro finished 3-5 with three RBI extending his hit streak to seven games. Tyler Grigalis, Darius Freeman and Seth Freeman each earned two RBI in the game. Grigalis went 3-4, D. Freeman was 2-4 and S. Freeman was 1-1. As a team, UNOH recorded 13 hits in the series finale giving them seven straight double-digit hit outings.
Wyatt Johnson got the start but was chased out after just two-thirds of an inning. Johnson gave up five runs, three earned, off just one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Sinjon Bobolia (2-1) came in to finish off the inning and ended up going the rest of the way for his heaviest workload of the season. Bobolia finished with five and a third innings in relief to pick up the win giving up just one run off two hits while striking out two and walking one.
The Racers return home to take on the undefeated league leaders on Friday, April 7. First pitch of the two-game series against Concordia is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Racer Field.
