The UNOH Racers traveled to Ft. Wayne, IN over the weekend to take part in the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament at Indiana Tech University. The Racers faced a rough schedule over the weekend with 3 nationally ranked opponents. The Racers lost those 3 matches, but downed St. Francis to finish the weekend 1-3. In their first match, the Racers were up against #13 Olivet Nazarene. The Racers lost in 3 sets, 25-20, 25-21, and 25-22. Leading the attack were Junior Roshelle Watercutter and Sophomore Meagan Enyart who each totaled 13 kills. Sophomore Debbie Brubaker totaled 37 assists in the match. Sophomore Kelly Oldiges led the digging with 19 and Sophomore Jessica Prince had 11 as well. In the Friday nightcap, the Racers faced the host #31 Indiana Tech. The Racers once again fell in 3 sets, 3-0. The set scores were 25-22, 25-12, 25-19. Junior Katie Luebke and Roshelle Watercutter each had 11 kills on the match. Debbie Brubaker had 24 assists during the match. Kelly Oldiges had 13 digs while Roshelle Watercutter had 11 digs. On Saturday morning, the Racers faced their only unranked opponent of the weekend in St. Francis. The Racers took advantage and downed St. Francis 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-23. Meagan Enyart was the only Racer to reach double digit kills with 13. Debbie Brubaker had 30 assists in the match. Meagan Enyart also had 3 aces and Jessica Prince had 2. Roshelle Watercutter and Debbie Brubaker each had 10 digs on the match. In their final match of the tournament, the Racers faced their toughest challenge in #6 Georgetown. The Racers fought their hardest, but fell 3-1. The set scores were 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 27-25. Meagan Enyart led the attack with 17 kills and Katie Luebke had 12 kills as well. Debbie Brubaker had 43 assists on the match for the Racers. Kelly Oldiges tied her own school record with 41 digs on the match. Roshelle Watercutter had 24, Jessica Prince had 14, and Sophomore Chelsea Crow had 10 digs. Crow also had 2 aces in the upset bid. The Racers now stand at 14-9 on the season, and currently 1-1 in the American Mideast Conference. The Racers will be back in action on Thursday, October 8th when they travel to face AMC foe Mt. Vernon Nazarene. The match is set to start at 7:00 pm. |
