Coach Kevin Kitchen enters his second season as the head coach of the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball program. Coach Kitchen will look to continue the success after the 2008 inaugural season. During his first season, the Racers finished their campaign with an impressive 26-11 record setting season. The Racers also finished 9-5 in the American Mideast Conference, which placed them 6th overall in the conference. The Racers had a season high 7 match win streak, which all occured on the road. The Racers qualified for AMC postseason play in their first year of existence. The Racers fell in 5 sets to first round opponent Cedarville to end their oustanding 2008 season. Coach Kitchen led the Racers to postseason honors as 2 Racers made the AMC2nd team, 2 more Racers made the AMC 3rd team, and 1 Racer earned AMC Honorable Mention. The Racers also placed 4 Freshman on the All-AMC Freshman Team. Kitchen previously spent seven seasons coaching high school volleyball at New Knoxville, Piqua, and most recently at his alma mater, Lima Central Catholic. The Lady T-Birds were the 2007 OHSAA Division III State Champions. Prior to that, Kitchen led Piqua to three consecutive District final appearances, and was named the District 9 coach of the year three times. Kitchen is also a co-director and coach for Team Atlantis Volleyball Club. Most recently, his 15 Elite team finished in 3rd place at the 2008 USA Junior Volleyball Championships - National Division. Kitchen graduated from Walsh University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He comes to UNOH after a teaching career in the Piqua City School system. Kitchen is single and resides in Elida. |
